Three seemingly unrelated characters try to register their stories with variable results. They are at the same place at the same time but fail to connect and create relationships. The play is about honouring the art of storytelling and the preservation of memories. It’s a heartfelt call to all generations to celebrate life, our stories and the stories of others. A reminder that happiness does not lie in the achievements of the individual but in the relationships that form when stories are told and listened to.
Endalausir þræðir (Never-ending Threads) is a travelling theatre play devised and performed by Strengur performance group in the summer of 2020. It travelled around community centres for elder citizens in Reykjavík between waves of Covid-19 as an act to reinforce access to art and culture for older communities despite the pandemic. Strengur hosted acting classes in some of the same community centres as well as performing the piece. The project was meant to bridge the gap between generations and promote cultural and social life of older citizens in Reykjavík with the tools that theatre has to offer.
The project was funded by The Welfare Department of the City of Reykjavík.
