A theatrical research about the performativity of televised news

News broadcasts have a place in the soul of the Icelandic nation. The studio designs and musical themes reflect the spirit of each era, and in truth it is impossible to find a more true mirror of the present than the latest news broadcast. News is truth, and the transmission of it is the truest performance, since it is not a game or a lie, but an impartial dissemination of information. Or what? What is lies beyond the camera? Why does the news anchor speak so strangely? Are all these news stories written the same way? Are these endless television broadcasts perhaps running its course? Have we become numb? The performance group BEIN ÚTSENDING intends to clarify these unclear boundaries between truth and staging by investigating the performative aspects of news reporting; aesthetics, form, methods and setting. The group's results are presented to the audience on stage, in a live broadcast, where everything is under wraps and nothing can go wrong. This is breaking news.
