Outdoor piece of theatre about teenagers and weeds.
Weeds are our enemy. They are powerful and pushy plants that take nutrients and oxygen from more delicate plants. They germinate early in the spring, so we have a responsibility to eradicate the weeds before they can form seeds. But sometimes the roots reach deep into the soil which means that small shovels, hoes and sickles are not enough.
Flokkstjórinn (The Instructor) is based on Hólmfríður’s experience as a group leader of an outdoor summer job for teenagers. The work provided insight into the communication of the younger generation, bullying culture and how cruel human beings can be when they desire nothing more than to belong to the group. Are some people simply evil? Or do they just exercice bad behaviour? Do you really always have to follow in the footsteps of men to gain respect? Because even the most unexpected people can break you down, no matter how much power you have in the space. The piece premiered in an ampitheatre in Kópavogur, Iceland, in 2022 and went on tour around the country the following two years.
